There are three kinds of foundational knowledge: math, physics, and philosophy. Math teaches you the language of reality, physics teaches you about material reality, and philosophy teaches you about immaterial reality.

Startups are awesome. Feels *so* good to close a $100,000 deal, and then after paying AWS, Stripe, Mercury, Airtable, Loom, Twilio, Github, Google, Mailchimp, Mixpanel, Zoom, Figma, Heroku, Typeform, Zendesk, Carta, Dropbox and Zapier we still have a whole $77 left over.

Best books I read in 2020 1. Atomic Habits by @JamesClear “If you show up at the gym 5 days in a row—even for 2 minutes—you're casting votes for your new identity. You’re not worried about getting in shape. Youre focused on becoming the type of person who doesn’t miss workouts” https://t.co/EpW9tgdiHi

Why do some incredibly smart people struggle to launch a business? It’s because intellect is unidimensional: give it a well defined problem, and get a solution in return. But startups are multidimensional. There are too many variables for any mind to hold and work through.

Scikit-learn is one of the most useful and important Python 🐍 libraries for machine learning. Here is a great cheat-sheet that will help you decide which algorithm to use depending on your needs. https://t.co/CmPbwPXsQO

1/I’ve embraced remote work completely like all tech folks have been forced too, & I’m afraid & inspired that the gains are so significant for employees that many/most will not go back to offices This is going to lead to a crazy, competitive chess board for funds & startups.

Lessons from Lean Startups: (visual summary)

On average, email earns $40 for every $1 spent 🤯 The next highest ROI growth channel returns half that. We spent the last month interviewing email marketers at this year’s fastest-growing startups. Here's a thread of actionable email insights.

Who is the most qualified person to give a short talk about the dark arts of early-stage fundraising for startups?

Typically (social) psych PhD students are qualified for roles such as UX researcher, data scientist, or data analyst. My sense is that being a data scientist at a big tech/social media company requires a lot more computational/programming experience https://t.co/q1RnzoB6kR

A non T shaped team member becomes a liability for the startup in the long run. https://t.co/5YVKV7X7HR

It stuck in my mind

Reviewing PhD applications this year in ML/AI. At this point we might as well just say applicants already need a PhD to get accepted. Is this the case with every field, or is it just ML/AI which has gotten so competitive? Thank God I applied 4 years ago!

All writing advice boils down to speaking the truth without making a big fuss about it.

Element AI raised $257M and was sold for $230M after 4 years Sad to read this news. I guess this is another piece of evidence that AI startups founded and run by famous academics with good intention don't always have the best execution https://t.co/hSTmzzdoht
