If you spend much time on AI twitter, you might have seen this tentacle monster hanging around. But what is it, and what does it have to do with ChatGPT? It's kind of a long story. But it's worth it! It even ends with cake 🍰 THREAD: https://t.co/4KJiBCgmp3
I made a list of 10 things I know I’d regret on my deathbed. It was illuminating and inspiring. Here’s my list (and why everyone should make one):
The scientific method isn’t a ‘western’ concept. It’s universal. Indigenous, mythological, cultural or religious knowledge shouldn’t be conflated with science. Medicine or technology derived from this knowledge can work, *if* scientifically proven.
“Capitalism is artificial intelligence production. And artificial intelligence can only come from a self-propelling capitalism. You’re not understanding either if you don’t see that they’re ultimately identical.” — @Outsideness
I'm speechless. Not peer-reviewed yet but a submitted paper. The 'presented images' were shown to a group of humans. The 'reconstructed images' were the result of an fMRI output to Stable Diffusion. In other words, #stablediffusion literally read people's minds. Source 👇 https://t.co/sne2LhF8wZ
I embedded all of @paulg’s essays. All 605,870 tokens worth. Use OpenAI’s new model to search & chat with them at https://t.co/w0YZwjJShV. Code & dataset is 100% open-source for anyone to use. GitHub: https://t.co/1buQTJT4Ge https://t.co/OcYMAp5W9H

So many of the study techniques we learned in school were actually ineffective. Here are the result of a large meta-analysis of study techniques. You should skip highlighting, summarizing, and rereading. Instead, practice, quiz & explain. https://t.co/lTCDSLscZg AI can help! 1/ https://t.co/SkOhkZnP4p
OpenAI's leaked Foundry pricing says a lot – if you know how to read it – about GPT4, The Great Implementation, a move from Generative to Productive AI, OpenAI's safety & growth strategies, and the future of work. Another AI-obsessive megathread on what to expect in 2023 🧵 https://t.co/OUfgryMQ3z
People who mock the decline of universities in the US have no idea how bad it really is. I'm on the inside, and I can tell you the next 20 years will be more wild than you can possibly imagine. The academy is currently peeling away from reality and will be fully detached soon.

Japan has a problem. A problem so big that it can no longer be contained—literally (Hint: It sits in these blue & white tanks). The decisions it makes in the coming months could affect the world’s largest ocean and millions of people. 🧵1/11 https://t.co/MNQflMMmz2

#1 David Sacks breaks down how the safety layer of 'ChatGPT is a Democrat': "There is mounting evidence OpenAI's safety layer is very biased... If you thought trust and safety were bad under Vijaya or Yoel, wait until the AI does it." https://t.co/X63j1DmJdu @DavidSacks @amuse https://t.co/yyzLb19NLy
ChatGPT seems to come out of nowhere. Little did we know that it was built on top of decades of research. The diagram below shows how we get here. Subscribe to our weekly newsletter to learn something new every week: https://t.co/0RYwcKdZ4q https://t.co/TqghqluzMu
At the same time -- open science initiatives involving multi-institutional collaborations have emerged. I'm thinking of C4AI @forai_ml, @BigscienceW , @AiEleuther, @MasakhaneNLP, MLC. These trends can have different yet powerful impact on ML progress + who participates. https://t.co/nem1XrHNTr

What’s next after open source and open model? Open training. How far can *crowd-sourced* computing go? There has been a democratized effort to reproduce the mighty AlphaZero. Chain ⛓️ Rule(s) rules! Appreciation thread of one of the most interesting coincidences in machine learning. Two rules, both named "Chain Rule", happen to be absolutely critical to recent advances in ML & AI. A 🧵 on the Chain Rule of Probability & the Chain Rule of Calculus👇
1. Trying is the coolest thing you can do. If you're going to do something, do it well. 2. Your diet impacts everything—appearance, energy, and mood. Garbage in, garbage out. Quality in, quality out. 3. Nothing good happens after midnight (especially when you've been drinking).
