It's been a wild week already in #ML/#AI for science. Advancements in using diffusion models for protein folding, using learned potentials to discover new catalyst materials, a proposed battery data genome to speed energy storage material discovery, and so much more! 🧵 (1/8)
“When we are born, the Adhan, call for Shalah, is recited to our ears; yet no Shalah is performed. When we die, no Adhan is recited but the Shalah is performed. I’d like to think the Adhan of our birth was reserved for the Shalah of our death. That’s how short life is.”
You have to work hard at building intuition. It's your own large-scale AI model. You have to feed it a lot of training data, perspectives, encounters, meetings with people. It's not explainable in that you don't understand how it works -- but it's very powerful.

The Tripitaka Koreana - carved on 81258 woodblocks in the 13th century - is the most successful large data transfer over time yet achieved by humankind. 52 million characters of information, transmitted over nearly 8 centuries with zero data loss - an unequalled achievement. 1/ https://t.co/TaNkmlldhA
This is a good time to recall that Gabriel García Márquez got rejected by The New Yorker in 1981—and the next year he won the Nobel Prize in Literature. https://t.co/auOJgojv7u
Most people only understand karma through the common phrase when we see a bad person get what was coming to them: "Well, karma is a b****!" But there is a lot more depth to the concept. Specifically, there are 12 Laws of Karma that are worth understanding:

Neural networks often pack many unrelated concepts into a single neuron – a puzzling phenomenon known as 'polysemanticity' which makes interpretability much more challenging. In our latest work, we build toy models where the origins of polysemanticity can be fully understood.

All videos are actually three-dimensional objects Usually what we see is just a small slice along the axis of time, but what if we could tangibly interact with the geometry of this space? https://t.co/kddrYO40wI

The pressure to be extraverted starts when children are young. Data: before their infants turn 1, mothers already hope they'll be extraverted—even more than smart, hardworking, and friendly. Introversion isn't a lack of engagement. It's a quieter way of engaging with the world. https://t.co/06mJ8PTIrX
@mikekarnj @juliey4 You don’t need $100M to realize that life is all about sense of purpose, personal improvement, great family and friends, health, and convenience. Too many assets drown you in responsibility and expectations from your community. Get to $5-20M. That’s pretty much perfect.
I feel very conflicted about the Stable Diffusion open source release.
